Choosing the Right Treatment for You
Our specialists will provide you with the best recommendation possible for your health and well-being, from medication and a proper diet to our breadth of surgical options, including minimally invasive procedures. Surgical treatments at the AdventHealth Neuroscience Institute include Robotic Stereotactic Assistance (ROSA®), which uses GPS-like navigation to remove only the tissue in the precise spot where seizures begin. NeuroPace RNS® is another groundbreaking technology available. This device is implanted in the brain to monitor and respond to brain activity, which helps prevent seizures.

Diet and Medication
For about 70% of our patients, the most effective treatment will be a combination of diet modifications and anti-epileptic medication. The ketogenic diet is often recommended because its high-fat and low-carb regimen helps your body produce natural anticonvulsants and control seizures. We offer the only physician-led program of its kind in Florida.

Monitoring
The AdventHealth Neuroscience Institute offers the most sophisticated monitoring tools available today with our magnetoencephalography (MEG) program, the only one of its kind in the state. Painless and non-invasive, MEG is a neurodiagnostic test performed in adults and children to capture activity deep inside the brain and to identify where seizures originate. This procedure maps your brain function. When surgery is required, MEG enables us to pinpoint problem areas and keep healthy areas of the brain safe, too.

Procedures
The most common surgical procedure to treat epilepsy is a temporal lobe resection that removes a tiny part of the brain where seizures tend to start. The AdventHealth Neuroscience Institute uses advanced, minimally invasive technology like ROSA® to ensure that procedures are done with extraordinary precision, shorter recovery times and reduced risks. AdventHealth is the only hospital in Central Florida offering these minimally invasive techniques.
