Answering Your Mammogram Questions
Routine mammograms save lives. We want to make sure all your questions are answered, so you can be informed and empowered to get your screening mammograms regularly.
- Are screening mammograms covered by insurance?
-
Most insurances cover screening mammograms for women beginning at age 40, as long as it has been one year since the last mammogram and there are no breast symptoms.
- Is a prescription required to receive a mammogram?
-
AdventHealth facilities do not require a script for screening mammograms (for women over 40) in the following counties: Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Flagler, Volusia and Lake. All other locations do require a mammogram script for screening mammograms. A script is needed in all locations for diagnostic mammograms. If a mammogram script is needed, connect with your primary care provider, or our nurse navigator team would be happy to assist you in obtaining the script.
- Are $30 mammograms still available?
-
Unfortunately, $30 mammograms are no longer available. We do offer self-pay pricing. Our team is also available to connect you to resources to receive free or discounted mammograms. It is important to note that if you have insurance, screening mammograms are typically covered for women over 40.
- Where can I access free or discounted mammograms?
-
Our AdventHealth Imaging locations partner with the Department of Health in Seminole, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Flagler and Volusia counties through the Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (FBCCEDP) to offer eligible women access to mammograms.
The advantage of patients going through the Department of Health for their annual screening mammogram is that in cases where additional imaging is recommended due to abnormal findings, the FBCCEDP benefits will cover the costs of those exams. To connect with the Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program, visit their website by clicking here.
Additional options for free or discounted mammograms can be found by speaking with our Breast Cancer Care Fund office through the Jennie Yoon-Buchanan Foundation. Please reach out to our Fund Coordinator at FundCoordinator@AdventHealth.com or 407-303-3486. - Is there a price difference in a screening vs. diagnostic mammogram?
-
Prices do vary by location for diagnostic mammograms. It is best to check with your insurance and/or preferred facility for an estimate prior to receiving the exam.
- How do I access the AdventHealth Breast Care Fund?
-
The AdventHealth Breast Care fund is available to women in need of financial assistance. The fund can be contacted at FundCoordinator@AdventHealth.com or 407-303-3486. An application must be completed and approved prior to completing a mammogram. Please contact our Fund Coordinator to receive an application and review the eligibility criteria.
- Where can I go to schedule my mammogram or learn more?
